GARDS annual
wreath laying ceremony

The GARDS Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony was conducted in the Morwell
Rose Garden on May 5th 2004 to celebrate the lives of loved ones lost to asbestos
related diseases and other work place fatalities. Families of those who have
passed away layed wreaths and placed white crosses in the ground.
The Memorial Quilt was also on display at this ceremony honouring the memories of those who have lost their lives due to their work envirnoment. There was a large crowd of families, friends and union delegations to honour our fallen family members and work mates. Guest speakers were Victorian Trades Hall Council senior industrial officer Brian Boyd and Memorial Quilt coordinator Bette Phillips. David Duncan scottish piper played laments through out the ceremony. The minister who conducted the ecumenical service was Russell Jones from the Uniting Churches of Moe/Newborough.
