Memorial Quilt tours the Latrobe Valley
21/05/04
GARDS is the custodian of the Memorial Quilt while it is in Latrobe Valley. The Quilt has been on display at the GARDS Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony conducted at the begining of May 2004. The Quilt then went on to a Mothers' Day church service at the Uniting Church in Moe and then spent time in the Uniting church at Newborough. Its last port of call for 2 weeks is the foyer of the main office of Latrobe City in Traralgon before it heads off to another destination in Victoria.

The Memorial Quilt is a project created by families and individuals who are breaved due to work-related death. The bereaved families initiated the Memorial Quilt to pay tribute to the lives of their loved ones. Each square remembers a loved one who died from work-related causes. The quilt travels around Victoria to offer support to all who have experienced the death of a loved family member due to work factors. The Quilt also conveys a heartfelt message about the fundamental priority of safe and healthy environments in every Victorian workplace.

The Memorial Quilt is a project of the Partnerships in Grieving Program of the Creative Ministries Network, an agency of the Uniting church in Australia. Anyone who wishes to add a square to the Quilt can contact Vicki Hamilton at the GARDS office or Bette Phillips coordinator of the Quilt on 98278322. The Memorial Quilt will be an ongoing project.
