Peter Gordon
presents James Hardie Commission findings
On the night of the 22nd of September we were privileged to have Peter Gordon
from Slater & Gordon come straight from Sydney & Commissioner Jackson's
findings into the James Hardie Medical Research & Compensation Fund Commission
of Enquiry to brief our members and interested community on the ramifications
of those findings.
Peter gave a run down on the James Hardie Company and its executives shameful manoeuvres to try and evade its legal and moral responsibilities. Peter emphasize that this is not just a NSW issue, but an Australia wide issue and negotiations with Hardies and unions/asbestos sufferers will effect all of Australia's asbestos sufferers and their families, in particularly Gippsland which is experiencing one of the highest rate of asbestos related diseases. I think the mood of the crowd demonstrated agreeance that the Federal government needs to act on the corporations law to make sure that no other company is ever able to do this again.
There was quite a large crowd at the meeting and everyone appreciated Peter making the effort to keep our community informed about these issues.
