SOCCER
& GARDS BOTH WINNERS!
On the 5th, 6th & 9th of March the Gippsland Referees Charity Bowl took place
at the Latrobe City Sports Club in Morwell. GARDS were the biggest winners over
the course of the Charity Bowl games as they raised $2,800 through door ticket
sales and raffle tickets at the Charity Bowl. This is the most money raised
since the Charity Bowl has been running. GARDS secretary Vicki Hamilton said
she was just overwhelmed with the support GARDS received from the soccer community
they have been so warm and friendly to all the volunteers that have worked over
the 3-day event.
GARDS had 15 volunteers who came in and helped to raise this money, which was a mighty effort. We thank Tony Antonelli and the other referees of the Gippsland Soccer Referees Association for allowing GARDS to be the charity of choice this time. George Bruce the owner of the Latrobe City Sports Club made GARDS volunteers welcome and feel at home at his top class facility. The teams that played in the final were Moe United & Fortuna Soccer club with Fortuna the eventual winners with the scores finishing at 2 - 1. Vicki said it was a very exciting game and she has been converted to a soccer fan. GARDS would like to thank all those that wished them well and supported them.
