Alstom & Workers Donate at Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony

The GARDS Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony took place on Thursday 28th of April in Victory Park Traralgon. there were over 60 people who attended the day. The ecumenical service was conducted by Father Bickley and Reverend Ross Stanford. The Caladonian Scottish Pipe band played laments for the service along with a parishioner from St Michaels Traralgon who sang and played guitar to the hymns. This ceremony coincides with International Day of Mourning in memory of workers who die, are injured or fall ill as a result of their work. Over 100 countries around the world observe this day.

GARDS was overwhelmed with a generous donation at this ceremony from Alstom and their workers at International Power Hazelwood of $1,200. Alstom and the workers are fundraising through the year to help raise money for much needed medical equipment. Two employees Terry Carroll and Duane Morrell ambassadors for asbestos sufferers have taken on this challenge to organise and run the fundraising.

The money donated at the Wreath Laying ceremony will buy an oxygen-conserving regulator. These devices triple the life of an oxygen bottle. This device will be added to the GARDS medical equipment supply which is made available to asbestos sufferers through out Gippsland.
