Senate Inquiry into Non-Conforming Building Products – Melb 2017

On the 14th of July 2017 the ACV/GARDS representatives were invited to make a statement about the issues they have been seeing in the community around asbestos products. Senator Nick Xenophon and Senator Chris Ketter listened to Vicki Hamilton our CEO/Secretary as she explained what our organisation had been investigating in the last 5 years. Vicki took samples of items/products to the hearing for the Senators to view and understand what sorts of items they had picked up off Australian shop shelves and bought on line. Items such as crayons, necklaces, rocks from crystal shops and science kits for children, along with brakes and gaskets. The Senators were very interested to see the other side of the story about asbestos products coming into Australia that were not building products and how they were purchased. Our organisation was very honoured and pleased to be able to show the issue of asbestos in a different light. Albeit just as dangerous and very insidious.
