#asbestos #IWMD2022 28th April 2022 ACV/GARDS and the GippslandTLC held our International Workers Memorial Day at Gippsland Heritage Park the first since before COVID – We paid our respects to the 62 Victorians who were tragically killed in work place accidents over the past year. We also remembered those who have lost their lives over the years and paid our respects to their families. Everyone has the right to come home safely from their work. Thank you to all those who joined with us today to support families grieving the loss of a loved one and showing how much you care for those who are suffering a workplace illness or disability photos of the event were taken by: Tanya Fairbairn ACV/GARDS member

International Workers Memorial Day 2019
On the 26th April 2019 ACV/GARDS and GTLC conducted their International Workers Memorial Day event in the Centenary Rose Garden Morwell Victoria, Australia – Workers Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for workers who have been killed and injured on the job. It is observed around the world by surviving family members, friends, co-workers, and health and safety activists in workplaces and communities. Today we had inspirational speakers – Paul Fowler – Director – Enforcement Group, WorkSafe Victoria – Darren Van Heurck – Workplace Accident Survivor – Steve Dodd – Secretary GTLC & Union organiser, AMWU – wonderful singers – Susan Parrish & Patrick Wakefield from – In Harmony & The Yallourn Madrigal Singers (Choir) – awesome bagpiper – Dick Henry – Moving ecumenical service conducted by Reverend Marilyn – great crowd of family and friends – thank you for making today a wonderful and truly magical event for those attending – everyone felt love and compassion and a sense of community and that is what it is all about – people supporting people!!! We honoured fallen workers and recommitted ourselves to the struggle for safe and healthy work places in Latrobe Valley – Victoria and Australia wide. A memorable day for all.

You are invited to join us for the annual combined Asbestos Council of Victoria/GARDS Inc. and Gippsland Trades and Labour Council International Workers Memorial Day event.
Centenary Rose Garden – Avondale Road, Morwell 26th April – starting at 11am – Interesting speakers – musicians – ecumenical service and a free community BBQ at the conclusion provided by the GTLC. Everyone is welcome to join us on this day to recognise and remember those suffering illness and those who have lost their lives due to unsafe workplace practices.
